Daily news offers variety. It takes photojournalists out to exciting places and into intense situations. It also brings us to quiet moments in poorly/boring light. This post highlights four photos that showcase the use of a single off-camera strobe, which was used to create more dynamic and interesting images, in daily news assignments.

The photo above comes from a story discussing the selection of an architect for the renovation of the fitness center in Orem. The fitness center is a bit dated and offers some lovely artwork that adds to the powerfully orange underground track. The light is flat and as yellow as it gets. I decided to add a bit of motion to the walkers, who were making their way around the track. A little pop of off-camera flash, which I had laid on the ground, helps add a bit of energy to this rather dry situation.
