A simple, straightforward portrait with quality light is essential for so many circumstances. Whether it is a bio photo for your LinkedIn or, in this case, an announcement for award winners by a local organization, a high-quality portrait goes a long way. Recently, I was able to make a set of portraits for the South Bend Civic Theatre to highlight members of their volunteer community.

I’ve worked with the South Bend Civic Theatre for over a year now and I am always stoked at the opportunity to create alongside such an important and impactful organization. The goal of this particular project was to photograph six individuals who were recognized as the Distinguished Service Award recipients by the theatre. The images are to be used both in a social media post, which was posted earlier this week, and an in-person event (when allowed/able).

For this set of portraits, consistency was essential. I was aiming to provide a set of six images that were consistent between one another, but also that was similar to past award-winner portraits. This involved a bit of reverse engineering some images in order to mimic the setup as best I could. Overall, I love the balance of the existing light in the background illuminating a section of downtown South Bend with the additional light added by my off-camera strobes.
