For the above portrait, I wanted it to be more direct. By having Lavender stare down the camera adds a confrontational element to the photo. The low angle of the camera emphasizes Lavender and puts her in a power position in the frame. This representation is congruent with where the best basketball player in the valley would be when she takes the court.

There were some situational issues for the next two portraits. The wrestling room was a construction zone when I walked in. All of the wrestling mats were rolled up and a bare basketball floor was visible. There was even someone hanging new light fixtures. There was no way to unroll the mats with all of the construction equipment sprawled across the floor. I was able to drag over a small mat to serve as a temporary wrestling mat for the images (you can see the obvious depressions in the mat caused by Maika). In addition, adding a ton of off-camera strobe brought down all of the ambient light and cleaned up the background a bit. There are still some silhouettes of ropes in the wrestling room, but it is a lot cleaner looking than what I initially saw when I walked it.

Although the situation wasn't ideal, I am a pretty big fan of the images that came of this assignment. I think I would move the light on the left side a bit further back to take that highlight off of his cheek and I believe it would also lessen the light on the opponent's hands. I think those two changes would elevate this image even higher.
