Orkney: The Ness of Brodgar
Just off the northern coast of Scotland and located at a maritime crossroads for northwest Europe are the Orkney Islands. These islands have had a human presence for millennia. Little is known of the earliest settlers, even though many traces of their presence have been left behind. The Ness of Brodgar, which is entering its 13th year of excavation this summer, is key to understanding these early people. It is considered to be one of the most important Neolithic excavations in the world.
